Legacy Storytelling

The unique and playful nature of the Mr. Strut figures made them a focal point at each table, sparking conversation and reinforcing brand pride. Guests were not only reminded of Eberl Iron Works’ legacy but also felt personally connected to the company’s history and values. The centerpieces became a memorable, lasting token of the event, strengthening the sense of community and pride among employees while highlighting the company's century-long journey in an engaging way.

The Challenge

For their 100-year anniversary celebration, Eberl Iron Works, a third-generation manufacturing company, wanted to bring their company mascot, Mr. Strut, to life as a table centerpiece. The goal was to create an interactive display that would instill brand pride, educate guests on the company’s history, and serve as a unique conversation piece during the event.

Insights

Mr. Strut’s origin is a unique part of Eberl Iron Works’ history. According to company lore, Mr. Strut was first sketched on a napkin by Walt Disney himself when he sat next to the company’s founder on a flight. Bringing this story to life through a physical replica would allow Eberl Iron Works to share a fascinating piece of their legacy while celebrating their centennial milestone. To commemorate this occasion, each Mr. Strut figure was designed with a 100 Years of Service badge embedded in his chest.

The Concept

We set out to create a 14-inch replica of Mr. Strut that could serve as a focal point at each table. Working with the 2D digital graphics provided by Eberl Iron Works, our 3D design team brought the mascot to life in CAD software before 3D printing each body part. His poseable rubber arms added an element of playfulness, while the base allowed him to stand securely on each table. Alongside each figure, a printed card explained Mr. Strut’s origin story, adding an educational component to the display.

The Experience

The Mr. Strut centerpieces became an immediate hit, creating an emotional connection with employees and guests by celebrating both the brand’s history and the milestone of 100 years in business. The interactive elements, like the poseable arms, encouraged guests to engage with Mr. Strut, while his detailed origin story made him a natural talking point. The figures added a sense of pride and fun to each table, seamlessly blending education and entertainment.
